Looking for Something Fun to do with the Kids?

By Emelyn Hinrichs

Last year, more than 3000 Brisbane locals joined the Mater Little Miracles community for a huge day of family fun. The entire South Bank precinct was brightened by your smiles and transformed by giggles, fun and colour as we walked 5ks together to support Mater Little Miracles.

And this year we have some exciting news …

We’ve introduced anew ‘Little Legs Loop’—a shorter walk option of 2.5 km for the younger members of your family.

This year, on Sunday 5 June, you, your family and friends can enjoy the walk and entertainment on offer, including:

  • face painting
  • jumping castles
  • Old Macdonald’s Farm
  • balloons
  • fairy floss
  • popcorn
  • performances by the one and only Peppa Pig and Brisbane singer-songwriter Ella Ferdinands and a whole lot more!

Only the legendary Miracle Max and PAW Patrol’s heroic puppies—Police Pup Chase and Fire Dog Marshall!

Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk is so much more than just a great day of entertainment for your family—it’s a walk for mothers and babies at Mater; a walk to save lives.

Your continued support of these families will make a difference.

As well as helping more than 2000 seriously ill and premature babies who are cared for in Mater’s Neonatal Critical Care Unit each year, you’ll also be helping expectant mothers.

Every year, up to 1 in 4 women expecting a baby experience complications in early pregnancy (from 0 to 20 weeks gestation), including bleeding and other issues.

You can help Mater improve healthcare for all expectant mothers by raising funds to help build Australia’s first 24/7 Pregnancy Assessment Centre. The centre will be available to any woman that needs help, from day one of their pregnancy to six weeks after their baby is born.

By signing up for the Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk, you can be part of this special project that will make a real difference to the lives of so many mothers and babies in your community.

Babies like Parker, from Brisbane.

Little Parker was born by emergency caesarean close to three months early, weighing a tiny 1.69 kilograms.

But because of the support of people like you, after three long months in hospital, baby Parker was finally able to go home to his family where he belongs.

Check out his incredible story here.

Just by signing up for Mater Little Miracles 5ks Walk this year, you can help ease the worry and uncertainty for more parents like Parker’s, and help with the build of Australia’s first 24/7 Pregnancy Assessment Centre at Mater, which is planned to start this year!

It’s just $45 for a family of five, $30 per individual or $25 per participant if you’re creating a team.

That’s a whole day’s worth of entertainment for less than the cost of a trip to the movies!
